While major horse racing events are synonymous with extravagant displays of fashion, entertainment and celebrity spottings, there is a group of individuals who form a vital part of the racing ecosystem: The punters who spend their days at the track and expertly analyse the various factors that will determine the ultimate outcome of a race.
A select group of Hollywoodbets Kenilworth Racecourse’s punters have therefore been invited to attend the 163rd edition of the L’Ormarins King’s Plate (LKP), when it returns to Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on 6 January in a thrilling display of social and sporting excitement, and where the finest thoroughbreds will vie for a series of coveted titles and a lucrative total prize purse.
“The 2024 L’Ormarins King’s Plate marks an exciting milestone, with L’Ormarins celebrating 20 years as a partner,” says Donovan Everitt, COO of Cape Racing. “This anniversary highlights the enduring success of the LKP and the lasting partnerships that have contributed to its prominence in Cape Town’s summer season.
However, we would be remiss to overlook the important role that our loyal punters play as our partners in the sustainability of the sport, and as such have decided to collaborate with the organisers of the LKP and host them at this prestigious event.”
Punters in attendance will be treated to a buffet meal in the newly renovated Pocker Power Lounge and enjoy a bird’s-eye view of the afternoon’s action on the race track, including SA’s premier weight-for-age mile, the R2 million Grade 1 L’Ormarins King’s Plate.
The day also features a Pick 6 carryover of R1 million with a likely pool of R5 million, potentially making it a lucrative day at the races for these bettors.
Adds L’Ormarins King’s Plate Coordinator, Katherine Gray, “The organisers have introduced a number of fringe activations to encourage attendees to be an integral part of the race day, and collaborating with Cape Racing to include their top punters in the day’s events wonderfully compliments our commitment to make the L’Ormarins King’s Plate 2024 a more personal and engaging experience.”
