Sandrine Kwizera, born in 2001, is a Rwandan visual artist who uses painting and free-hand sketches to explore feminist and self-explorative themes. Her passion for art began from an early age through creating spontaneous sketches and class assignment drawings.
It was in 2013 when Sandrine decided to pursue a professional career in art after receiving favourable critical reviews and encouragement from her middle school peers to join art school. She attended Ecole D’Art De Nyundo, where she graduated in 2018 and is currently completing her bachelor’s degree in Creative Design at the University of Rwanda.
Kwizera’s ethereal subjects often evoke feelings of timelessness, as if drawn from the edges of memory and myth. Her bold female figural depictions express a profound commitment to unlocking subconscious feelings that surround both self-affection and the power of the feminine. Creating art hasn’t solely conveyed valuable lessons regarding the world but has additionally offered perspectives into self-identity.
